Gamblers are some of the most superstitious people in the whole world. They also believe in something and it influences the way they play games; whether it be in a live casino or from a gambling website.
That being said, I am willing to bet that you also believe in some gambling superstitions yourself. In this article, I will focus on some casino superstitions that players believe in.
Crossing Your Legs
Some people believe that when you cross your legs while placing a bet that you are actually crossing out the good luck that will usually come along with it.
Even though this is quite bizarre when you look at it from a rational standpoint; a lot of people actually believe in this.
13 and 4
In popular Western Culture, the number 13 has always been regarded as an unlucky number which is precisely the reason why people tend to shy away from this number when gambling.
However, there are some countries that have different numbers that are deemed unlucky. In China, for example, the number 4 is considered as the unluckiest number simply because it symbolizes the word death in their language.
Counting Your Money at the Table
This is much more casino etiquette than superstition. A lot of people believe that when you count your money at the table, it is deemed as unlucky. As the saying goes, pride goes before a fall.
But, a lot of rational gamblers know that it is more of etiquette than superstition. That is because it is considered generally rude to count your winnings at the table since you’re going to be insensitive to the other players, but a lot of people can also get jealous of you and might hurt you when you get outside.
If anything, just collect your winnings and count them once you reach your home or hotel.
In China, it is believed that the color red represents joy, luck, and wealth. That is why you see a predominantly red theme in Chinese weddings. This notion has also been adopted by some gamblers and they are led to believe that wearing red clothing while gambling increases their odds of winning.
Blowing the Dice
The origin of this superstition has probably stemmed from the 1955 hit film by Marlon Brando, Guys and Dolls. Marlon Brando said to lady luck not to wander all over the room and blow on some other guy’s dice.
Well, there are actually practical uses for this. There has come a time where some unscrupulous gamblers would use a sticky substance in an attempt to win it big in dice games. This substance would only get activated with moisture, hence the blowing action that is required.
Although that is no longer the case in today’s casino games, some people might believe that lady luck will smile on you when you blow on the dice first.
The Use of Lucky Charms
There are some people that would bring certain items prior to playing in the casino because they deem that these items have brought luck to them.
Whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but you cannot argue that people bring suck items as a means to increase their odds in the casino.
